10 Reasons to BUY AN IBM OR COMPATIBLE:

10) The Convienence -- You can walk into almost any computer store and select from a wide variety of IBM manufacturers offering hundreds of different options. With Mac? Most stores don't even carry them any more, and those that do are limited by the preset packages presented by Apple and any (1 or 2) clone manufacturers out there.

9) The Quality -- IBMs are reknowned for their quality. In fact, since many more clone makers are out there on the IBM side, competition is far greater than on the Mac side, further improving quality.

8) The Company -- IBM (and other major companies) will be around for quite some time into the future. With Apple? I wish them luck to finish this century. (more below)

7) The Options -- With an IBM, you don't have to worry about paying Apple's greedy prices on quality components... there are hundreds of clone manufacturers out there offering a combination of thousands of options. With Mac? Apple ships their computers "as is..." meaning if you want to customize it, ... well, good luck.

6) The Support -- With over 90% of the market share, 9 out of every 10 people that use computers are likely to be IBM users. Therefore, the support structure for IBM computers is far greater than that of Macs.

5) The Price -- The below table compares two "equal" systems. In reality, for almost half the price, the Dell system below offers much more:

Macintosh PowerMac 9500

Dell Dimension XPS M200s (MMX)

604e 200 MhZ Processor

Pentium 200 MhZ with MMX

512K Level 2 Cache

512K Pipeline Burst Cache

2 GB Hard Drive

3.2 GB Hard Drive

8X CD-ROM

12X CD-ROM

Video Card w/2MB VRAM

Matrox Millennium w/4MB WRAM

Apple OS Ver. 7.5

Windows95

???

800HS Sony Trinitron Monitor

???

AWE32 Wave Table Upgrade Card

???

Altec ACS-290 Speakers w/Subwoofer

???

MS Office '97 Professional with Bookshelf

???

Norton/Visio Espress Software Suite

$4,199 (plus monitor)

$2,599 TOTAL

(Prices as of January, 1997; PowerMac Price is based on MacConnection's current pricing for this package for this month. Dell pricing is based on an ad in PC Magazine, Vol. 16, No. 3)

4) The Variety -- With IBMs, you can choose from hundreds of manufacturers. With Mac? There's only 2 or 3 clone manufacturers.

3) The Technology -- IBMs are far more advanced that Macs. MMX technology blows the Motorola 604e out of the water. Both platforms, as of January 1997 still have not broken the 200 MhZ barrier.

2) The Knowledge -- With IBMs, a computer user actually gains knowledge of computers as they work. With Macs, you are left with a primitive interface that looks like it's made for a baby... Don't let Apple insult your intelligence!

1) The Best -- IBMs are the best. Period. There's no competition between the quality, support, and price of IBMs. Just compare an IBM to those boxes of tin metal produced by a company that will not be around in the 21st century!

THE COMPANY:

Why will Apple not finish this century? We felt that pictures speak a thousand words:
Apple's Stock Performance: from 73 ($/share) in March, 1991 to 16 ($/share) in January, 1997:

Apple Corp. Stock Performance: 3/91 - 1/97

Apple's Profit Margin Growth 1994-1996

Boy, 1994 was sure good for Apple. It went all down-hill from there.
It's kind of hard for a company to survive on a negative profit margin!
